Meet The Team

Frank Sierra

To say the least, Frank is a busy guy! When he isn't onstage performing, he is a choreographer for BMT/Stars, a summer theatre director for The Boys & Girls Club of Kern County and Stars School of Performing Arts and a fine arts teacher at Bessie Owens Intermediate School. He also finds time to coach acting and modeling at Extraordinaire Model & Talent Agency where he has won several awards from I.M.T.A. He is the most proud of his talented kid's performing group that has qualified to perform at 3 National Conferences. Frank is looking forward to adding director of BYFA's summer theatre workshops to his list of occupations that he loves!

Mary Bellah

Mary has a passion for both music and children. This is exactly why she is a perfect fit for BYFA’s summer program. Aside from being an onstage performer, she is one of the best music instructors in Bakersfield. She is currently a vocal/piano instructor at Bakersfield College and she has her own private studio of students. She is a professional piano accompanist for several churches around town, as well. She is overjoyed to be working with such an experienced staff this summer and is excited to be doing what she truly loves doing…sharing the blessing of music with our youth.

Amber O'Reilly

Amber is thrilled to be a part of BYFA’s summer program and would like to thank the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County for this opportunity to work together in the enrichment of our youth through the performing arts. She has been teaching the fine arts to children for 25 years. In 1991, she started has Vocal Director at the Bakersfield Melodrama and then she continued on to work for West High School’s summer fine arts program and BMT/Stars School of Performing Arts. She is a classically trained vocalist and pianist and has studied at Baylor University’s Conservatory of Music and Westmont College. She has spent her life on the stage from being an 11 year old orphan in “Annie” to playing the “Narrator” in Joseph and the Amazing Techicolor Dreamcoat three times. She currently is St. Francis Parish School’s Drama teacher and has a private studio of piano and vocal students. Her passion is teaching the art of live musical theatre to kids of all ages and feels honored to be a part of a program of this caliber.

Jill Burdick

Jill is no stranger to the Bakersfield stage! This seasoned actor/singer has been performing Shakespeare, musical theatre, dramatic plays and opera for over 25 years at multiple reputable theatre companies in the community. She has studied classical voice for 20 years and is currently the Vocal Director at The Boys & Girls Club of Kern County for the nationally acclaimed kids' performing group "Music Fusion". Jill loves educating and working with young talent and believes that growth in the fine arts is an essential addition to standard curriculum.

Kelci Cerri

Formerly known as Kelci Lowry, Mrs. Cerri has grown up in the performing arts arena in front of the camera, on the live stage and in the study of many types of dance. At the age of 13, Kelci got her big break when she was cast in her first film that was accepted into the Brussels International Film Festival. Her favorite claim to fame was being able to film on the Universal Studios back lot. Kelci shines as one of Bakersfield's up and coming actors/choreographers. She has choreographed and starred in many shows at BMT/Stars and is currently the choreographer of CSUB's "Pippin". She is also a drama teacher at Bessie Owens Elementary. Kelci offers a young, fresh style to our workshops this year and BYFA is more than pleased to have her!

aboutus

Bakersfield Youth Fine Arts Academy (BYFA) is an organization that specializes in the education of youth in the visual and performing arts and the enrichment of our community through live performances. Due to lack of funding, fine arts programs are generally the first to be eliminated from many schools’ standard learning curriculum. BYFA’s primary goal is to fill that void. In a technology driven age, BYFA has a strong conviction to keep the soul of the arts alive by offering it to the future…our children. The enrichment of our children in the visual and performing arts has benefits of improving the skills of acting, singing, dancing, painting, drawing and sculpting. However, the most fundamental benefits of studying the fine arts are promoting creativity, gaining social skills by working in teams, building self-confidence and encouraging individuality in self-expression. BYFA views these benefits as invaluable assets to mold children into becoming successful adults.

Community

BYFA prides itself on being an active altruistic presence in our local community. This is why our organization focuses on reaching out by offering live performances to audiences of all ages. BYFA does this by producing quality performances by children through theatre workshops, dance recitals, vocal recitals, concerts, art shows, plays and musicals. Performances offered by our hard-working, talented students are an ideal and inspirational way to bring people together.

kids first

BYFA has a definite “kids first” policy and mentality. This is why there is not another organization that BYFA would rather collaborate with than the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County! Both organizations share a  similar vision in the education and character-building of our youth. Our organization is thrilled and honored to be involved with such a reputable group and we are looking forward to our “2019 Musical Theatre Workshops” venture in collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County. It is going to be a productive summer...and it is going to be a blast! JOIN US!
