On March 17th, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 59 Boys & Girls Clubs locations in Kern County closed and will remain closed for the 2019-2020 school year. Three of our Clubs continue to operate in southwest Bakersfield, east Bakersfield, and Lamont from 7 a.m to 6 p.m/Monday-Friday to serve the critical needs of our community. The Club is prioritizing providing full-day activities for school-age children of first responders, health care professionals, essential community personnel in response to the spread of COVID-19.

Because of the crisis, we expanded the after school meal program for at-risk and disadvantaged children in Bakersfield, Arvin, and Lamont to seven days a week. The "to-go" meals (supper and breakfast packaged together) ensure children will receive nutritious food while limiting their exposure to COVID-19. We anticipate serving 23,500 meals per week.

Aera Energy, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, has pledged to match donations made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County's Kids Need Care Campaign. California Resources Corporation has also come forth in support and has pledged $15,000 to support our efforts to provide critical childcare and meal services to children.
